2015 – 2016

DESAFIO

Buildings need energy for lighting, thermal comfort, data processing and other services for users. In this process, they end up using around 50% of all electricity in Brazil. In order to assess and implement measures that increase the performance of buildings, there is a need for a methodological framework that can assess both user satisfaction and energy performance.

In partnership with CBCS and Procel Edifica, and with financial support from the British Embassy, this project developed advanced techniques for evaluating the performance of buildings and implemented them in Brazil. The partnerships with Arup and CarbonDescent brought knowledge and technology from the United Kingdom, which were adapted to the Brazilian reality by Mitsidi.

MITSIDI PERFORMANCE

Mitsidi led the development and implementation of the project. Our team of experts performed a series of services that led to the creation of a knowledge base and infrastructure for building performance in Brazil. That includes:

Adapt the BluePrint energy audit software for Brazil;

Adapt the occupant satisfaction analysis Building Use Studies to Brazil;

Conducting and publishing pilot studies on iconic buildings in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro;

Development of guides for auditing and energy efficiency in data centers;

Training for the leading experts in energy efficiency in Brazil on the principles of energy auditing.

RESULTS

Procel's national energy efficiency program has adopted the performance of existing buildings as a key principle. Building on Mitsidi's work alongside CBCS, this project will form the basis for future training sessions, research papers, publications and implementation of energy efficiency program for existing buildings on a large scale.
