Energy Efficiency
Always keeping an eye on what is happening in the world of energy and sustainability, Mitsidi went to check out the innovations at Expo2020, which is taking place in Dubai. Also on this trip to the United Arab Emirates, Mitsidi representatives visited Wetex – a trade fair dedicated to the energy theme; visited a Sustainable City and made contact with several companies.
“Innovation is key for any sector. It is very important to know the international trends for the energy and energy efficiency sector, as well as the best practices of both the public sector and private companies. On this trip, we were able to see the innovations of several companies and how different countries are dealing with the topic. We learned about the latest developments related to green hydrogen, carbon capture, automation, construction processes, among many others”, says Mitsidi’s technical director, Alexandre Schinazi.
“What is most impressive about this visit is seeing up close the massive investment that has been made in decarbonization, the circular economy, more humane cities and health. Sustainability is not an option: it is a fact. Reducing emissions is not a possibility: it is a fact and it is monetized. The world is changing rapidly, and Expo is a living example of this”, he continues Alexandre.
At Expo2020, the German pavilion was the one that most caught the attention of Mitsidi's energy efficiency manager, Rosane Fukuoka, for being rich in energy information and technologies, such as geothermal energy, horizontal elevators, Enerkite, Heliatek, walls that generate electricity, among others.
“The experience in Dubai was very enriching and broadened our vision on the topic of energy efficiency and global business”, said Rosane.
Expo2020 is the largest global event since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is a universal exposition with the participation of 190 countries represented in its pavilions. It showcases technological innovations and architectural works. It began in October 2021 and will run until March 2022. Brazil participated with its pavilion on the theme “Together for sustainable development”. More information can be found at here.
In addition to the country pavilions, Expo2020 features a program of cultural and gastronomic activities, seminars and forums on a wide range of topics, including energy and sustainability from different parts of the world. Mitsidi participated in meetings focused on sustainable business in Morocco, Senegal and Egypt, making connections and discovering innovation hubs thriving around the world.
Despite the global importance of Expo2020, it was at Wetex that it was possible to learn about the main innovations in the energy sector, as the exhibition is dedicated to the theme. It is a fair that aims to achieve integration between all sectors of the energy industry, bringing together the commercial and technical aspects.
“It is a very interesting fair because it has a format that fosters the creation of new business opportunities, facilitates the exchange of ideas and experiences and presents the latest innovations”, says Alexandre.
Wetex also had a schedule of seminars on the most relevant and current topics in energy. Among the topics presented were energy efficiency, electric cars, sanitation, carbon capture, digital advancement, among others.
In Dubai, they also visited the Sustainable City project, which is a 46-hectare real estate development. It is the first net-zero energy development in the Emirate of Dubai. The development includes 500 villas, 89 apartments and a use area consisting of offices, retail establishments, healthcare facilities, daycare centers and food and beverage outlets. The city was developed by Diamond Developers.
All homes in the Sustainable City have solar heating, a water condensation system for domestic use, a VRF system, LEDs, photovoltaic solar energy, thermal insulation and efficient glass. In addition, there is a waste collection and treatment system, collective vegetable gardens, electric vehicle charging stations and cycle paths. In addition to visiting the Sustainable City project, Alexandre and Rosane had contact with other smart cities, such as the Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority and Masdar City. “In Brazil, the concept of smart cities is still not very widespread, but it is a global trend that is likely to grow and we are following this progress”, says Rosane.
