Energy Efficiency

Bandeirantes Acontece Program – Bandeirantes Radio

Mitsidi's technical director Alexandre Schinazi was interviewed by Bandeirantes Radio on the Bandeirantes Acontece program this Sunday, January 17th, and gave tips on how to save energy and reduce your electricity bill.

In an interview with active participation from listeners that lasted almost half an hour, Alexandre Schinazi answered some of the most common questions from the vast majority of electricity users who are looking for alternatives to reduce the amount paid on their electricity bill.

Prioritizing Energy Efficiency

The questions from the audience showed that Brazilians in general have been very interested in the topic of energy efficiency, since energy costs are very high in the country. The concerns expressed by the public demonstrate, however, that ordinary citizens are not always aware of which types of consumption really influence their energy bills and which are negligible.

Much has been said about the consumption of cell phone chargers, which is very low when compared to the consumption of other specific devices such as air conditioning and refrigerators. This exaggerated concern for small loads is often seen even among people who work with the subject; industries that have carried out energy reviews to obtain ISO 50,001 sometimes speak with pride of how they were concerned about the consumption of loads that in practice can be considered negligible. Mitsidi always advocates prioritization to define which areas of consumption should be concentrated on.

Energy generation in the country

On the Bandeirantes radio program, the conversation went beyond the area of energy efficiency in consumption and reached energy generation.

Alexandre Schinazi was asked about Brazil's position in the generation of clean energy, especially wind and solar energy. The topic is highly relevant to national energy security and mitigation of environmental impacts of generation. We at Mitsidi always emphasize how this topic is different from energy efficiency in reducing consumption and should not be confused.

Generating more clean energy is a goal that the country should pursue, but this is not directly related to energy efficiency. For example, photovoltaic generation does not guarantee energy efficiency.

The best way to reduce environmental impacts related to energy generation is to rationalize consumption and not to generate clean energy in itself.
